Port Pirie is 224km North of Adelaide and is located on the East Coast of Spencer Gulf, with the beautiful Southern Flinders Ranges overlooking the town.
The first meeting of the Port Pirie Budgerigar Society was held on August 27th. 1957. There were 22 foundation members present at this meeting. The first Annual Show was held twelve months later in July 1958. The Annual Show is still held in July each year. Over the years our Membership has peaked at around fifty members, and at the present time membership is around twenty.
All our members do not live in Port Pirie. They come from North, South,East and West of Port Pirie and even Broken Hill. To come to meetings it can mean a four to five hour round trip for some of them. Meetings are held on a Sunday and because of distance, meetings are held approximately every three months. Meetings are held at one of the member’s home as a Social Day. The meeting is held first and when all the business has been dealt with, we enjoy each others company with a BBQ lunch and of course looking at the Budgies.
All Office Bearers, which include Patron (Lloyd Edwards), President (Larry Jeffries), Secretary/Treasurer (Peter Glassenbury), Show Manager (Bob Simpson) etc., are elected annually at the AGM in January. The rest of the members are the remaining Committee. Port Pirie is fully affiliated with the Budgerigar Council of S.A. Inc. and has four members on Council representing the Club.
Is due and payable 1st. January annually, and is $10.00 per member and $5.00 for a Junior member with the first twelve months for a Junior member free.
